Our Legal Team
VRP Law and VRP Law Group’s legal team consists primarily, of seven (7) individuals: Vihar, Janelle, David, Denny, Emily, Nirmal and Pranesh. Our legal team has a unique blend of copyright, trademark, patent prosecution and litigation, corporate, employment and M&A Advisory experience and exceptional litigation capabilities. We function as a truly cohesive and coordinated legal team to ensure that VRP Law and VRP Law Group’s clients are serviced timely, within our legal estimates, and at a quality of legal services that rivals that of many larger firms.
We are particularly adept at litigation and trial services on complex patent, copyright, trademark, employment, corporate, and commercial litigation matters. We also have strong background and experience in the entrepreneurial, start up, angel and venture capital spaces and are equally adept at complex technology deals. We belive that these two areas feed of one another; we can understand the technology, help you make the deal, and help make sure it turns out the way you envisioned. We have relationships with attorneys across the country that can act as local counsel on matters in Delaware, California, Wisconsin, and where you might need us. Vihar started practicing law in 2001. He is a a former Attorney with IpHorgan Ltd, Partner with Enterprise Law Group, LLP, Partner with Law Offices of David Freydin, a Litigation Consultant with Animation Technologies Inc., an Illinois Assistant Attorney General, and Associate Attorney at Favaro & Gorman Ltd., with a deep understanding of litigation, business and risk management practices. He focuses on the business, employment and intellectual property needs of entrepreneurs, individuals, small business owners, small and mid-size companies. He emphasizes developing a long term relationship with clients to ensure that our legal services are personalized to the clients overall business strategy.
Vihar has worked with Fortune 500 Companies on a variety of employment, corporate and intellectual property law matters. Vihar has represented clients in the United States, Mexico, and China on a variety of matters from counterfeiting, RAIDS, proseuction of trademarks, employment counseling and strategic acquisitions. Vihar can also assist entrepreneurs, individuals, small business owners, small and mid-size companies with risk assessment, planning, compliance, negotiation, prosecution with the US Copyright Office and the USPTO (including TTAB proceedings), prosecution of copyrights and trademarks in foreign countries, PCT and WIPO filings. Vihar can assist with dispute resolution and litigation in administrative, federal, international and state courts. He has lectured on topics related to business, employment and intellectual property law at bar organizations and local schools. He is a member of the trial bar for the Northern District of Illinois, licensed to practice in Illinois and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also published a number of legal writings in law journals and Co-authored a Book published by West. Vihar is mentor to DePaul Law Students, founder of the Executives, Entrepreneurs Brunch Club and its Business Plan Compeition, and is a member of the ISBA, CBA, IPLAC and serves on the CIPLIT Advisory Board. With our network of professionals we are equipped to handle large and small matters. We also have a downtown office for ease of access to business centers, agency headquarters, state, and federal courts. Finally, Vihar combines his knowledge of business, law, science and technology to develop creative solutions for his clients. Based in Chicago, Vihar has a Masters of Law in Intellectual Property from DePaul University School of Law, a JD from Southern Illinois University School of Law, and a B.S. in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University.
Vihar enjoys tennis, volleyball, working out, yoga and meditation, running, networking through LeTip of Lakeview, EEBC, SBAC, entrepreneurship, lecturing, Chicago Ideas Week, volunteering with not for profits, and works on committees of several local bar organizations.
David received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and thereafter spent four years as a Systems Engineer where he designed and built automated industrial control systems and components. David received his /juris doctor/ from the Chicago-Kent College of Law with a certificate in Intellectual Property and is a registered patent attorney.
David has chosen to focus his career on intellectual property matters – particularly prosecution, litigation and transactional work. He has practiced before the US Patent and Trademark Office, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, the American Arbitration Association and several Federal District Courts. In addition to his legal practice, David also maintains an active role in several intellectual property organizations, and has participated in a variety of local events as a panelist, guest speaker and judge.
Before joining VRP Law Group as Of Counsel, Denny previously held senior trial counsel positions at Chicago-based Tressler LLP and Sullivan & Associates, LLC. Denny is very experienced with commercial litigation. Denny earned his law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law with a Certificate in Intellectual Property in 2003 and earned CALI awards for the highest class grades in Trial Advocacy and Intellectual Property Litigation.
Denny graduated from the University of Dayton in 1981 with a degree in Industrial Engineering Technology and has held engineering, sales and management positions at such prominent manufacturers as GM, Square D and United Technologies. He is also a former editor of Cutting Tool Engineering, a highly respected international trade publication.
Janelle earned her Associates in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies degree at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. She worked for several months with Walgreens Co. as a paralegal intern. She worked on many projects, performed extensive legal research, prepared business correspondence, and reviewed, drafted and analyzed legal documents as appropriate. Prior to her work as a paralegal she worked with Abbott and Hospira for ten years gaining knowledge of corporate business, compliance, and tax exemptions. Meanwhile, fine tuning her skills in, file management, time management, computer software, and gaining superior customer service skills.
Emily is a second year law student at DePaul University College of Law and she is on her way towards earning her Juris Doctorate. Emily is from Valatie, New York and is enjoying learning about what Chicago has to offer, both the legal environment and the city itself. Emily provides a variety of legal research and drafting services for motions, discovery, pleadings, corporate documents, trademark and copyright applications, and contracts.
Nirmal and Pranesh are our tireless docketing professionals. They work hard to make sure that each VRP Law Group matter is tracked properly, updated in our internal proprietary case tracking database, and provide valuable daily, weekly and monthly reports to us. They are an important part of our Legal Team.
